This week's Irish Echo reports on an Irish American constituency in shock after Ted Kennedy's surprise endorsement of Barack Obama but equally interesting to me is the paper's nine-page supplement on the Irish language which gives the most comprehensive summary of the state of the Irish language in the US which I have ever read.
And quite an upbeat story it is too, with university courses, learners' networks, sophisticated learning software, and even a Gaeltacht planned for Canada. Minister Éamon Ó Cuív heads out in April to give a lecture on Irish in the 21st century and Glór na nGael (the annual competition for Irish speaking communities) will host its first-ever event in NYC this May...
