The Minister for Community, Rural and Gaeltacht Affairs, Éamon Ó Cuív TD, has announced that he has provided funding to the Fulbright Commission, the official educational exchange programme between the Irish Government and the United States, to appoint a number of Irish language assistant tutors from Ireland to third-level institutions in the United States.
Funding of up to €660,000 is being provided from Ciste na Gaeilge for the period of three academic years to continue with the Fulbright programme and to appoint a Fulbright Scholar. The aim of the FLTA Programme is to reinforce the teaching of foreign languages in colleges and universities throughout the United States by providing speakers of the foreign language as tutors in participating universities. The FLTA Programme provides participants in the scheme with unique academic and teaching opportunities.
